As a part of my Gaisce community service, I decided to volunteer at the Bray Lakers. It is a community-based sports, social, and recreation club for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. I decided to help out on Tuesdays for an hour where I helped out with the playball activity. This activity consisted of many different games and the children were taught many new skills. My main job was just to help out the instructors by clearing up after the activities, and setting up the activities. The part that I enjoyed most was working one - on - one with the kids and trying to help them improve their new skills. All the kids has such positive attitudes and they were really eager to learn. This made my job a lot easier. As the weeks passed I found myself enjoying it more and more. It was extremely rewarding when I saw the pride and happiness on the children's faces when they completed a task successfully. I found myself getting closer to the kids which made the job even more enjoyable. Even though my community service weeks are over, I would really like to volunteer again. the people I was working with made it clear that I was welcomed to help out whenever I had free time. This was by far my favourite part of Gaisce.
